The Transmission of Life....THE SERIES!

A little over a year ago, I bought a used Audi Q5 that had a push button transmission; you just push in a button on the side of the gear stick, pull gently on the stick and the transmission moves quickly and quietly into gear....PRESTO, YOU ARE READY TO DRIVE...which got me to thinking about life and the gears that are the transmission of life.

First, there's that gear known as PARK...the gear that keeps the car from moving forward, rolling backwards or allows it to sit still with the motor running. I must admit that gear took me some time to figure out, since many times I would push the button, think the transmission had moved into park and exit the car; sometimes with the motor running, so that the interior would be toasty and warm for my driving pleasure on our cold, winter mornings. THERE WERE A COUPLE OF TIMES, I STARTED TO WALK AWAY AND NOTICED THE BACKUP LIGHTS WERE ON, WHICH TOLD ME THE CAR WAS IDILING IN REVERSE...so I ran back to the car and made sure it was in park....DISASTER AVERTED!

But why is the PARK gear so important in our daily lives. God tells in Psalm 46:10 to, "Be in awe and know that I am God.  I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted throughout the earth."  In most translations the first words read, BE STILL, and that should tell us something about how we spend our daily lives as we rush from place to place, meeting to meeting, sporting events with the kids, errands to run all over town, meals to prepare and finally, falling into bed late into the evening to catch some sleep before we do as the shampoo bottles reads....LATHER, RINSE...REPEAT!

So my question to you is how can we be in awe of God and His creation if we never take the time to be still and KNOW HIM AS OUR CREATOR, SUSTAINER AND THE GIVER OF ALL GOOD THINGS? The answer is...WE CAN'T!

We were created for relationship, fellowship and companionship with God as our Father and that can only occur when we spend time with Him. I am reminded of my relationship with my father, over the 35 years we were able to spend together, before he was called home to his reward in Heaven. He left this earth far too soon, but the times we spent together, delivering the morning newspapers to over 600 customers, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for over 3 years... these are the times I treasure the most. I remember often, when I take the time to be still,  how we would sit, stuffing the inserts into the papers on Thursday and Sundays as we spent time talking, laughing, while all the time I was learning the lessons of life from my dad. He grow up as an orphan, but never let the lack of having a father of his own, detract from the love and the lessons of what it meant to be a man that he taught me...and it was all because we took the time to build a strong bond between a father and his son....and that is what God wants with you in this life he has given you...TIME WITH HIM!!!

So today, why not leave the transmission of life in PARK for a time of quiet repose, meditation and the study of God's words for you, found in His Holy Scriptures, just waiting to give you the wisdom, insights and Godly directions, you so long for in your life on this dusty orb. And in those moments, you just might find yourself in AWE of the AWESOMENESS OF THE GOD OF THE UNIVERSE THAT YOU GET TO CALL, ABBA, FATHER!

Poem of the day.....

We spend in our lives in motion,
Moving rapidly to and fro...
Striving to get ahead in life
But not sure just were to go?

So maybe we should take a moment
Not to treat life as just a lark?
Rather to spend our precious time,
With our lives placed in PARK!

Time to know our Father
Who reigns from His throne above;
Sheltered from the "pulls" of life
As we bask in the Father's love!

So don't run willy nilly,
Chasing after the status quo...
Spend some time with your Creator,
So He can direct where you should go!
